The Academy of Chiropractic is an organization dedicated to helping to expand the vision of chiropractors and the public worldwide to attain the goal of 95% of the public under chiropractic care as clinically indicated. Its Clinical Director, Dr. Mark Studin, has been a chiropractor since 1981, graduating from New York Chiropractic College and as a practicing chiropractor, treated 650 patients per week for many years, initially as a family practitioner, then primarily in the field of personal injury.
Dr. Studin is also the past Executive Director and Co-Founder of the New York Chiropractic Council and currently is the Chairman of the Board of the American Academy of Medical Legal Professionals. As a result of his organizational experiences, he was instrumental in helping pass legislation and was responsible for creating many of the largest chiropractic public events and professional conventions ever held, worldwide. This background helped in understanding how state regulatory agencies function with professionals and also how to bring the chiropractic message to the masses. With extensive knowledge in Spinal Biomechanical Engineering through formal education, the legal profession sought Dr. Studin's advice and through the years, he has become expert in working in the field of personal injury and crash metrics.
Dr. Studin began educating lawyers in 1989, teaching the "medical" in "medical-legal" to attorneys who seek to increase their knowledge in "personal injury related issues." Since then, he has personally lectured to, and educated over 50,000 personal injury lawyers nationwide including being one of the first chiropractors to be granted "CLE Status" in many states to formally educate lawyers. He has also been the keynote speaker for many state's Bar and Trial Lawyer Associations. It is through these interactions with both plaintiff and defense lawyers nationally and Dr. Studin's personal team of lawyers researching rulings, again on a national basis that lays the foundation for what is taught in the Lawyers Personal Injury Program.
Dr. Studin is certified by numerous licensure boards nationally to teach chiropractic continuing education in diagnosis, MRI , electodiagnostics, accident reconstruction, impairment rating, head trauma and other various topics. He is also certified by the State University of New York at Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to render AMA Category 1 continuing education credits in the field of spinal MRI interpretation to medical doctors.
Dr. Studin is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Clinical Sciences at the University of Bridgeport Chiropractic College teaching the basics of MRI Spine Interpretation, electrodiagnostics and triaging patients. He is also a former Adjunct Associate Professor at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, Department of Health Science and Technology teaching medical coding. This background along with previously owning and administering a billing a company and numerous chiropractic and multi-disciplined practices has given him the expertise and credentials to support doctors in correct coding and documentation while supporting the doctor in preventing and prevailing in insurance company audits.
Dr. William Owens brings a wealth of research based practice information to the Academy of Chiropractic that has been proven in clinical practice and continuing education for doctors and lawyers. He presently has one of the fastest growing trauma practices in the nation and has successfully integrated research into his diagnostic and reporting protocols. This has resulted in him being sought after on a daily basis in the medical and the legal community. Dr. Owens has taken this research-based model to the next level and is now successfully implementing these protocols to educate primary care physicians and medical specialists in handling medical-legal cases as well as chronic pain patients. He was involved in the development and negotiation of 2 hospital based clinics, one in a Level-1 trauma center and the teaching hospital for the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. He was part of the team that succeeded in negotiating a change to a Buffalo Hospital’s bylaws to include chiropractors as part of the medical staff, one of a few hospitals in the country to do so.
Dr. Owens is one of the founding members of the American Academy of Medical Legal Professionals and currently sits as the organizations President. Part of his work with the Academy is the monthly review of the 5000 indexed biomedical journals and their citations to bring the very latest research to medical-legal professionals on a national level. His affiliation with the State University of New York at Buffalo and the team of research interns that work under him, has allowed this process to be effective and efficient.
Dr. Owens is certified by the State of New York Department of Education to render continuing education credits to doctors of chiropractic in Accident Reconstruction. Additionally, he has taught MRI interpretation to medical providers through seminars approved to offer Category I AMA credits by the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Michael Schonfeld has been a chiropractor since 1978, graduating from National Chiropractic College and as practicing chiropractor his clinics have seen 850 patients per week for many years. Dr. Schonfeld was conferred a Diplomate in orthopedics, receiving his DABCO in 1983, and was a practice consultant for Markson Management Services and the Master's Circle for 5 years. He currently is the Chief Administrator for large multi-discipline offices on Long Island in NY.
Dr. Schonfeld has an extensive background in creating office and paperwork systems designed to help doctors follow all of the steps necessary to ensure compliance. These systems were developed for 22 offices in the 1990's and most are in place today, working effectively. Since the implementation of these systems, numerous audits have been performed both locally and federally that have certified his work as accurate, complete and timely. Dr. Schonfeld currently performs compliance audits of office records for doctors nationally. He exposes weaknesses in their records, allowing the doctors to make the corrections necessary to ensure compliance.
Dr. Schonfeld's relationship with doctor's nationally have helped prevent countless insurance and licensure board audits allowing doctors to focus on their practices and protecting their finances from predatory insurers.
The Academy of Chiropractic has developed many programs that support the practices of doctors globally by ensuring compliant offices and ethical relationships that increase the opportunities to generate additional income in your practice.
